David Blatt, the coach of Maccabi Tel Aviv, denied that there is a chance for him to go to the NBA “at the present time” despite the visit of Atlanta Hawks coach Larry Drew to Israel, while Turkish club Besiktas doesn’t have its former point guard in its plans

A day after the rumors about the possibility of David Blatt going overseas and Carlos Arroyo returning to Turkey, the dust has settled and in both cases there is smoke, but not a lot of fire.

As it was expected David Blatt denied that there is a possibility of him leaving for the NBA “at the present time”. As he said to the Israeli tv channel Sport5: “Atlanta’s GM Danny Ferry is an old friend of mine, so that’s why coach Larry Drew come to Tel Aviv, in order to see the way we work at Maccabi. It’s not something unusual. There isn’t a plan that involves me working in Atlanta at the present time”. (ed.note: The news of a possible “defection” of Blatt to Atlanta were first reported by Russian newspaper Sport Express).

As for the Arroyo rumors, many Turkish media insisted on Wednesday that the player could come back to Besiktas, the team in which he won three titles (Turkish championship, Turkish cup and Eurochallenge) last season. However, due to its financial troubles Besiktas don’t have the luxury of a player like the former NBA guard in its roster, as coach Erman Kunter clarified in a television interview at NTV sport.
