AEK Athens president Makis Aggelopoulos wants to see the resumption and completion of the 2019-2020 Greek League season. While the assembly of the Greek Clubs Association (ESAKE) and the Greek Players Association (PSAK) have already jointly decided for the cancelation of the remainder of the season, Aggelopoulos believes that action should be taken for the championship to restart.

“We must exhaust every possibility of resuming and completing the league,” Aggelopoulos said in an interview with the newspaper “Ta Nea.” I know that at this moment we are the only ones who want it and ask for it but we insist. It’s a pity and unfair for everyone to put a stop without fighting while we can. I think that we at least owe to study it [this option] for reasons that have to do with the credibility of Greek basketball. I discussed it a bit with [Panathinaikos owner] Dimitris Giannakopoulos and I will discuss it again with the board of the Greek League. Gyms will be opening and we will return to some normality. We must thus escape fatalism and do something.”

Aggelopoulos spoke of some modifications that he thinks can be implemented to help a potential resumption of the season.

“If the health authorities and leadership give the green light, then we can return to action in July, with good faith and will. We can whether resume the season or move directly to the playoffs, or organize a Final Eight. We can also agree to play with fewer foreign players, two or three instead of six.”
