The coronavirus pandemic brought much uncertainty in the world of basketball, especially so in the financial departments. Competitions around the globe will take a hit, and the Greek League and its lineup are no exception.

Such is the case with Rethymno Cretan Kings and Ifaistos Limnos as the owners of the two clubs informed the league that they are leaving their respective clubs. Neither squad is expected to participate in the First Division next season.

In both cases, the clubs don’t have debts, but their owners are not willing to continue spending money on a league that year by year is losing prestige and revenues. Olympiacos is also expected to not play in the Greek top division for the second straight year.

It should be noted that contrary to Rethymno, there hasn’t been anything official coming from Ifaistos yet but the club will hold a press conference next week, most likely on Tuesday (June 16).
