The game between Peristeri and AEK was interrupted due to opposing fans clashing in the stands of “Andreas Papandreou” Arena, home of Peristeri BC, the team coached by Vassilis Spanoulis.

With the score being 20-13 in favor of AEK, just nine seconds before the end of the first quarter, clashes started and the referees sent the teams to the locker rooms.

Initially, the referees said that the arena must be evacuated but, after talks with police authorities, fans have stayed in the gym due to fears of extended clashes outside.

The initial scheduling of the game on Saturday changed because the basketball game coincided with the football game between Atromitos – the local football team of Peristeri – with AEK and the police couldn’t guarantee the control of the fan

However, a large number of spectators have already left on their own after the incident in the basketball game.

Vassilis Spanoulis stayed alone on his bench, waiting for the game to resume and for the teams to return to the court.

After the initial interruption, the game has already resumed after 30 minutes. Ultimately AEK got the 84-80 win, despite 27 points by Marcus Denmon. Cameron Mcgriff with 18 points was the top scorer of the winning side.
