It wasn’t a pretty night for Panathinaikos but the job was done against AEK.

One week after the loss to Olympiacos Piraeus in the Greek League big derby, Panathinaikos Athens put on a strong defensive performance to beat AEK Athens 71 – 57 and improve to 7-2.

Mateusz Ponitka (14 points) and Paris Lee (13 points) were the only players in double figures for Panathinaikos while fan-favorite Nikos Pappas debuted with the team this season in his return after two years. Dejan Radonjic implemented plenty of rotation for the Greens ahead of a double-game EuroLeague week and the tip to Spain for games against Valencia (13/12) and Barcelona (16/6).

Aki Mitchell stood out from AEK with 18 points plus 10 rebounds. Kenny Williams scored 10.

Olympiacos remains the only team with an unscathed record in Greece after routing PAOK Thessaloniki 88 – 68 on the road behind Isaiah Canaan’s season-high 17 points.
