Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos receives lengthy ban and fined for Game 2 actions

The Greek League Sports Judge announced sanctions and fines for multiple members of Panathinaikos, Olympiacos also punished for incidents in Game 2

Panathinaikos Athens owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos was banned from entering any arena in Greece for the next 10 months and was hit with a fine of 20,000 euros for his actions during Game 2 of the Finals between the Greens and Olympiacos Piraeus.

Giannakopoulos’ sanction will take place effective immediately, meaning that he won’t be able to attend any match of the Finals that are currently held. As for Panathinaikos, the club was sacntioned with a 44,000 fine for Giannakopoulos’ actions.

Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman was issued with a written “strict” reprimand while receiving a fine of 5,000 euros for statements that are “disgraceful” to the sport and took place after Game 2.  The club also received a 10,000 fine for this incident.

Also Basketball and Communication Director Dimtris Kontos a was punished with a written “strict” reprimand while receiving a fine of 3,000 euro for statements made after the game, while the club was fined an exta 10,000 euros for the incident.

Panathinaikos guard Kostas Sloukas was given a fine of 1,1000 for “misconduct against a referee”. According to the official game sheet, The Greek player told one of the referees “Shame, you did the same last year, I’ll see you in OAKA on Wednesday.”

Panathinaikos players Mathias Lessort and Ioannis Papapetrou were cleared of all charges. Lessort had been called to to appear before the judge for refusing to leave the court after being ejected, while Papapetrou engaged a fan, receiving a technical foul as a result.

Olympiacos was also fined for a total of 15,800 euros for insulting chants during Game 2.
