Olympiacos wins Game 5 at home and is the Greek league champion for the second year in a row. Bartzokas’ team beat Panathinaikos (89-85) in a close game until the end.
Olympiacos‘ two stars, Evan Fournier (22 points) and Sasha Vezenkov (19 points), were the top scorers in the victory. For Panathinaikos, Vassilis Toliopoulos’s 21 points weren’t enough in the loss. TJ Shorts scored 12.
Olympiacos started the last game of the Greek final with a dominant 26-17 lead in the first quarter. Despite Panathinaikos’ attempts to react, Vezenkov and Fournier ensured a comfortable lead at halftime (47-35).
After a third quarter full of stoppages and high tension, with Kendrick Nunn and Vezenkov getting into a fight, Panathinaikos fought back (69-59). Ataman’s team fought until the end, but Olympiacos held on to celebrate their second consecutive Greek league title in Piraeus (89-85).
Olympiacos thus closes a memorable season with the Euroleague title and the Greek league, something they had not achieved since 2011/2012, when they also beat Panathinaikos in the final and won the Euroleague in Istanbul against CSKA.
