Former referee Petros Papapetrou was remanded in custody on Friday, October 23, following his appearance before an investigating magistrate. The magistrate and prosecutor jointly agreed on his pretrial detention.

The 53-year-old is among those accused in an investigation into the suspected manipulation of 49 basketball games. Authorities found €820,000 at his home, which he reportedly said came from his earnings, including his work as a forestry official, and family income.

Papapetrou was the first of the six people arrested to appear before the investigating magistrate. Greek Basketball Federation president Vangelis Liolios is also among those arrested.
