Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos has been banned from entering sports venues for 10 months and fined €60,000 by the Greek league’s sports judge over an Instagram post.

The sanction concerned defamatory conduct through social media. The post featured a chant referring to the scandal involving the Hellenic Basketball Federation and its Central Refereeing Committee.

Panathinaikos received a separate €30,000 fine for their owner’s conduct, according to the published decision. The club will appeal to ASEAD, Greece’s sports appeals body.

In a separate ruling, board member and legal representative Margarita Thanou was cleared over her public statement that “fixed referees mean fixed championships.” Panathinaikos were also cleared in that case, which followed a complaint by Olympiacos.
