The dispute between Greek referees Spyros Gondas, Ilias Koromilas, Petros Papapetrou and Ioannis Foufis with the Greek Basketball Federation continues in the court of law and the case is underway.

The Federation requested a postponement, but the judge ruled that there was no reason to do so and started the process properly.

The court came to the merits of the case with the referees (except Ilias Koromilas, who was in Tel Aviv for the match of Maccabi against Real Madrid) submitting the arguments and the corresponding documents,

Lazaros Voreadis and Christos Christodoulou also wrote a memorandum in favor of their colleagues. Two of the top Greek referees supported their four colleagues.

In the summer of 2016, the International Federation informed all federations that it “recognizes the Euroleague, the Eurocup and the Fiba Champions League”, so all international referees could participate in the games of the respective competitions.

However, the Greek Federation decided not to nominate the four referees in the games of the Greek Championship, on the grounds that they preferred to “stand” on the side of the Euroleague. This case is quite abnormal and is unique in European basketball scene, as no other federation faces that kind of crisis.
