Panionios escaped the relegation zone in the Greek League after getting a crucial 72 – 71 victory over third place holder Lavrio in Round 21 of the championship. It was a rather… intense game from many aspects.
According to SDNA, the scoresheet of the game mentioned that Panionos president Stavros Alevrogiannis told one of the referees to “play well you as–hole, sellout son of a whore.” Alevrogiannis saw the rest of the game from the spectators’ seats.
After the match, Lavrio head coach Christos Serelis said that: “Two gentlemen, unknown to us, came in the locker rooms to abuse us and tell us how to play the game. I don’t understand how did that happen.”
Regarding what actually took place on the floor, Bosnian center Dejan Kravic shined by scoring 25 points, including the game-winning free throw for Panionios. McKenzie Moore dropped 21 points and Doron Lamb 20 for Lavrio.
