Olympiacos saw a 24-point lead getting completely evaporated by feisty Kymi at home and the possibility of defeat becoming quite real with 44 seconds remaining and the score 72 – 72.

Thanks to a 3-point play by Janis Strelnieks’ (his first basket in the game0 and some free throws by Vassilis Spanoulis, the Reds managed to get a stressful 78 – 75 win and make the 1-0 in the Greek League quarterfinals.

Spanoulis scored 18 points while Kyle Wiltjer had 14 points, including a key 3-pointer for the 72 – 67 with 1:42 remaining, and seven rebounds for Olympiacos that was up 41 – 17 with two minutes left halftime, before crumbling down.

With Thaddeus McFadden (21 points, six assists), Lenzelle Smith (15 points) and Gary McGhee (11 points, 14 rebounds) doing damage, Kymi approached 41 – 28 at halftime and proceeded to erase its deficit to make it an open game down the stretch.

Kymi could’ve sent the game to overtime but Sotiris Manolopoulos missed a wide open 3 in the last seconds.
