Greek Central Committee Refereeing president Stelios Simeonidis issued a statement regarding his detainment on Wednesday (30/5), following a suit by Greek EuroLeague referees due to their exclusion from the possibility of officiating in the Greek League Finals.

Simeonidis’ statement is as follows:

“Due to diligence regarding my role in the Central Refereeing Committee and with respect to my historic course and in no way because of weakness, I choose to not respond to the recent malicious publications and events. After the completion of the championship and the end of the Finals that are the crowning moment of the league and are of the highest priority for me, I will make a public statement to all those that are turn against me and my family, wanting to win something or doing a heroic exit or wanting to hurt someone else, looking to some hidden target by using the law procedures, while they know that they don’t have any substantial right.

Ι reserve the right to exercise my legal rights for all those actions.”

The Greek basketball federation also issued a press release in which “the federation monitors with caution the “inflammatory” actions, but in no way follows their path. We categorically refuse to participate and contribute to the coordinated attempts to deprive the sport. And we will not allow the uncontrolled action of the initiators and promoters. Unfortunately, the word about the false, defamatory and guided publications now belongs to justice“.
