Following the letter sent by the presidents of Olympiacos to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Greek Deputy Minister of Sports Giorgos Vasileiadis sent a letter to the Greek Basketball Federation and the governing body of the Greek League (ESAKE) requesting further details and explanations regarding the dispute between the Federation, Central Refereeing Committee and EuroLeague referees.

Vasileiadis’ letter is as follows:

“Dear gentlemen,

We are forwarding you the letter sent by Olympiacos BC on 31/5/2018. Among other things, the letter denounces an illegal exclusion of international referees and a non-compliance by the Federation to a Sports Court decision. You are requested to submit your opinions on the matters referred in the attached letter. I appeal to you to take immediate actions, if necessary, to ensure calm in the sport.

Deputy Sports Minister, Giorgos Vasileiadis”

On Wednesday, Greek EuroLeague referees sued the Federation and Refereeing Committee regarding their exclusion from the draw of the Finals, something which led to the detainment of the latter’s president Stelios Simeonidis. The presidents of Olympiacos, Panagiotis and Giorgos Aggelopoulos then asked prime minister Tsipras to interfere on the matter of the EuroLeague referees not being considered to officiate in the Finals.
