Spanoulis passes Diamantidis, moves into 2nd place on Greek League’s 3-pointers list

Olympiacos guard Vassilis Spanoulis passed former teammate with Panathinaikos Dimitris Diamantidis to move into second place on Greek League’s all-time list of made 3-pointers, en route to helping his team beat Promitheas Patras 80 – 77 on the road.

In the first quarter of the game, Spanoulis drained two 3-pointer to reach 627, passing Diamantidis who retired with 626. The captain of Olympiacos finished with 16 points and three triples and now needs nine more to climb at the top spot currently held by Angelos Koronios with 636.

Zach LeDay scored 18 points and Kostas Papanikolaou 17 for Olympiacos in what was a stressful win down the stretch. The Reds took a 14-point lead, 63 – 77 with three minutes remaining but Promitheas made a big comeback to cut its deficit to two, 75 – 77 with 1:22 left. Oleksandr Lipovyy with Langston Hall had a chance to force overtime in the last seconds but their missed their game-tying attempts and thus Olympiacos got the win improved them to 12-1.

Leonidas Kaselakis scored 20 and Octavius Ellis 17 for Promitheas that is now 8 – 5.
