Nick Calathes found himself from training with Panathinaikos to joining the Greek NT’s training ahead of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, an “awkward” situation as he explains to Eurohoops.

“Obviously it’s awkward, as you come from getting to know your EuroLeague team to learning a couple more plays with the national team and then you go back, and then you go forward. It’s a weird situation, but you do it, you play basketball”, he explains. “It’s still an honor to wear this jersey”

Greece faces Serbia in Heraklion on September 13. Despite the fact that their opponents are with their back to the wall and lacking Milos Teodosic and Boban Marjanovic, Calathes does not think their motive is bigger than Greece’s.

“We have just the same motivation as them to qualify by winning a game or two, we play in front of our home crowd so we have just the right motive to step into the court and win.”

As for making plans for China, Calathes remains down to earth. “I haven’t made any plans yet. When the time comes I will, but we need to win a couple more games and then we can talk about plans”, he concludes.
