Eurohoops caught up with the talented Rudy Fernandez during Real Madrid‘s recent visit to Greece for the game against Olympiacos. The Spanish star opened up about pretty much everything and didn’t hesitate to answer any burning questions, including his love-hate relationship with opposing teams’ fans, Navarro’s departure from professional basketball and more!

“Juan Carlos was always an example for everyone. I have suffered a lot while trying to guard him! He is a unique player, one of these that you count in the fingers of one hand. I was lucky, because I learned a lot when we were teammates and I will always cherish these moments”, Fernandez admits. “We will miss him for sure. Basketball offers you some very special players and they aren’t too many. A few years ago Diamantidis retired, now Navarro. Players that have left their mark on European basketball. Navarro is totally worth all of these events hosted for his departure from the sport.”

As for the “hatred” he receives from fans around Europe, Rudy seems to be pretty chill about it.

“Fans of opposing teams try to support their teams and at the same time will try to force the opponents out of their focus. Every time I play in Greece it feels incredible! We suffer, we’re jealous of the atmosphere, it’s amazing. Professional players use this kind of atmosphere to help us focus more on our team. As Reggie Miller has said, it’s something that motivates us!”
