The great star of Atlanta Hawks Dominque Wilkins spoke exclusively to Eurohoops. We met him in Los Angeles for the Hawks game with the Clippers and he talked to us about the time he played in Panathinaikos and won the first of the Euroleague title of the club and young European players coming in the NBA.

When asked about European players that dominate this season in the NBA, like Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Wilkins praised their experience in European territory. “They come into the league very young, but they’ve already played pro ball for two or three years. That’s the difference”.

“I remember playing against Peja Stojakovic in Greece when he was 17-18 years old. He was a baby and I was an old man”, he added with a chuckle.

Wilkins also sent a message to Panathinaikos fans that support him to this day: “Absolutely wonderful fans, they embraced me and treat me as their own from the start. I love you all and I’m very sorry for the loss of Pavlos Giannakopoulos.”
