Zenit, Zalgiris and Alba log wins in domestic leagues

Zenit, Zalgiris and Alba didn’t have too much trouble in the domestic league matchups, keeping their courses at the top of the standings

Will Thomas put on a strong performance to lead Zenit Saint Petersburg past Nizhny Novgorod in the VTB League with 78-73 on the scoreboard. Zenit improved to league-best 13-1 record compared to Nizhny’s 6-6.

Thomas logged 24 points and eight rebounds followed by Kevin Pangos with 12 points and nine assists. Arturas Gudaitis scored 14.

For Nizhny, Kasey Shepard and Evgenii Baburin scored 13 each while Luke Petrasek had 11 points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Zalgiris allowed only 15 second-half points to Nevezis in the dominant 78-47 road win. The reigning champions improved to a 13-2 record and top the Lithuanian League standings.

The winning side’s coach split up the minutes evenly as the whole roster got playing time with Karolis Lukosiunas scoring 11 and Rokas Jokubaitis ten points.

Martinas Geben and Augustine Rubit added nine each. On the opposing squad, Sedrick Barefield scored 15 and Ariel Hukporti 14 points.

Alba Berlin also stepped on the court and grabbed an 86-75 win against BC Gottingen in the German League. Alba improved to 12-1 and is on pace for the top of the standings, although the team trails two games in the schedule.

Maodo Lo led the way with 23 points while Luke Sikme logged an all-around performance with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. Simone Fontecchio added 13 and Marcu Eriksson 11 points.

For Gottingen, Rihards Lomazs scored 22 in addition to Tai Odiase’s 13 points.

Ratiopharm Ulm also got a win with 80-76 over the Fraport Skyliners with Dylan Osetkowski, Per Gunther, and Thomas Klepeisz scoring 13 points each. On the other side, Matt Mobley exploded for 26 points.
