The remaining games of the 2019-20 LBA Serie A season will be canceled, stressed the Italian Basketball Federation, FIP, honorary president, Dino Meneghin via the Punto Nuovo Sport Show, confirming previous reports on the premature end of the campaign due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Does basketball stop? It is a need to preserve the health of athletes, staff, and fans. We are experiencing a dramatic moment and sports, basketball, are part of this life. We must follow the rules dictated by the Government to preserve our health,” he pointed out, “We will cancel the season, it is needed. Life is more important than sports. Now it is essential to give everyone the opportunity to save his own life.”
The decision will be approved in the next few days. Involved parties will focus on resuming action for the 2020-21 season, provided health concerns are lifted.
