Italian Federation president Giannis Petrucci wants the 2020-2021 season to be held with the attendance of fans in the games. The season will begin on October 7.

In a videoconference meeting of the Italian Federation board, Petrucci expressed his hope that all competitions of the next season will be played in gyms with open doors for the fans, albeit with reduced capacity. Whether fans will be present or not will ultimately be determined by the government instructions regarding the containment of the coronavirus.

The 2019-2020 season in Italy was canceled on May 7 after previously being suspended until further notice on March 8. Italy was then the hardest-hit country by the coronavirus after China.
