Winning the Italian championship in back-to-back fashion and being the captain of the team able to reach the three stars must be a joyful moment for Nicolò Melli, which talked minutes after beating Virtus Bologna 67-55 in Game 7.
“We deserve this success because we stayed on track despite the results, our hard work has been repaid. I’m happy for the fans, for me winning as captain and for the third star of this club, I really feel this shirt”, he said to Eurosport before making a call for next year.
“I am not moved, simply happy and tired. I make an appeal: next year we return to the series with five games, seven are too many”, Nicolò Melli added. The Italian league, in fact, is the only one in Europe where the Finals are on best-of-seven games, and this was the last game of the season in the whole continent.
In the winning game, Nicolò Melli put up 4 points and 7 rebounds, averaging 9.1 points and 6.8 rebounds during the whole season. With Milano, he has now won 3 Italian championship and 1 Italian Cup.
