Decimated by injuries, Olimpia Milano suffers again in the domestic championship

Just when it seemed Olimpia Milano was out of the woods, notching six wins in the last seven matches, Ettore Messina’s team lost the last match of 2023.

The defending Italian champions fell to Brescia on the road in Round 14 of Legabasket, with the final score being 72-64. Olimpia, therefore, fell to 8-6 in the standings, while Brescia improved to an impressive 11-3 record.

With six first-team players out due to injuries, Shabazz Napier led Messina’s side in his second game upon returning to Milano, scoring 18 points. However, only Nicolo Melli with 13 and Alex Poythress with 11 points followed him.

For the winning side, one of the most pleasant surprises in Legabasket this season, CJ Massinburg led the way with 16 points. Amedeo Della Valle added 14, while Miro Bilan recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Semaj Christon also finished in double digits, scoring 12 points.
