Fiat Torino officially announced that Larry Brown is the team’s new head coach. This will be the first stint in Europe for the American Hall Of Fame coach.

“The choice of coach Brown was born, above all, from the consideration of a unique combination of quality, talent, and culture of basketball, that makes him a brilliant coach,” Torino vice president Francesco Forni said. “We are sure that he will help to promote the passion of the sport we love in Turkin and beyond and that he will be a formidable tool for the development of skills of our staff. We believe that the language of basketball is universal and having a master of the experience and personality of coach Brown will be an unprecedented opportunity for all of us, not only from a technical point view but also from a human point of view.”

Brown, 77, is the only head coach to have won both an NBA (2004 with the Detroit Pistons) and NCAA title (1988 with the Kansas Jayhawks.). Throughout his career, he’s also won the gold medal in the Olympic Games as a player (1964) and assistant coach (2000) plus the bronze medal in the 2004 tournament.

In 2002 he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

This season Torino finished at the 11th spot in the Italian Lega A First Division. While the club played in EuroCup in 2017-2018, it’s unknown whether they will continue in the same continental competition or if they will join the Basketball Champions League.
