Turkish Basketball Federation president Hedo Turkoglu mentioned during the BSL All-Star Game that, after meeting with Shane Larkin earlier this weekend, the player will give his finite answer about joining the Turkish NT in the upcoming days, precisely Monday or Tuesday.
“Shane Larkin is a very successful player in our country. Naturally, the expectations are that he joins our national team. We had a meeting with him on Saturday. Larkin asked me a few days to think. He will answer us clearly either tomorrow or Tuesday. After that, we will share it with you”, commented Turkoglu on Sunday.
Larkin himself has expressed his wish to play for Turkey in the past, while Recep Tayyip Erdogan mentioned a few weeks ago that the state will do ‘what has to be done’ in order to have Larkin on board.
In the recent past, Bobby Dixon and Scottie Wilbekin has also taken the Turkish citizenship and have played in major FIBA tournaments with the Turkish national team.
According to the FIBA rules, each national team can only use one naturalized player in their roster. If Larkin accepts the offer, then he will practically replace Wibelkin who is currently playing in Israel for Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv.
