A few days prior, Mike Malone denied any agreement with the Serbian Basketball Federation, though the possibility of him making it to the Pre-Olympic Tournament this year is open.

Nuggets‘ coach was asked about his potential role with the Serbian national team on Monday and he admitted he is talking about it with Serbian NT head coach Igor Kokoskov.

“Right now I’m having some dialogue with Igor. We’ve had some great conversations. Nothing is official yet, but it’s something that I definitely have interest in”, he mentioned, as adapted by Denver Post’s Mike Singer.

Serbia, one of the four host nations of the 2020 FIBA Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, could use Nikola Jokic’s help to fight for a ticket to Tokyo’s Olympics. However, Malone pointed out that Jokic has nothing to do with said conversations, as he doesn’t want to put too much pressure on the Nuggets‘ star.

“The talks I’m having with Igor and the Serbian federation have nothing to do with Nikola. I can’t speak for Nikola. I have no idea if Nikola Jokic will play or not play. […] I don’t want to put any added pressure on Nikola”, added Malone.
