Adam Waczynski and the Polish Basketball Association remain at odds. The veteran forward of Unicaja Malaga was not part of the national team roster which was announced on Tuesday and he reacted angrily with a public statement on social media.

As he wrote: “I would like to correct the media information that appeared after the announcement of the squad for the upcoming games of the Eurobasket 2021 qualification. It is not true that”I decided to rest. It hurts me that I was treated like that and because of this I was exposed to criticism”.

Both the federation president Radoslav Piesiewicz and coach Mike Taylor reacted with Taylor stating on Polish media: “As a coach of the Polish national team I am disappointed with Adam’s statement, I expect more from the captain. I would prefer that instead of publishing the statement, he choose a simpler solution and personally contact the federation president. The players and coaches have no conflict with Adam. I believe that this is a situation with which Adam should best cope individually “.

However, on Thursday, Waczynski responded with one more public statement: “My role, entrusted by my colleagues who chose me, was to look after their interests first and foremost. As you can clearly see from your statement, making my position clear on many issues has made me a problem. That’s why you try to blame me for conflict, which I did not create, and more than once tried to end”.

Waczynsky has made clear that until the whole situation is resolved, he is not able to play again for the Polish national team. With him as captain, Poland finished on the top eight of the recent FIBA World Cup.
