The Turkish Federation announced that national team head coach Ufuk Sarica’s contract has been terminated, a week before the November’s Window of EuroBasket Qualifiers 2022. The announcement mentions that the Federation thanks Sarica and Pinar Karsiyaka for the support during their cooperation.

As Basketfaul reported first and Eurohoops can confirm, Turkey will be coached by Orhun Ene in the upcoming EuroBasket Qualifiers against Croatia (November 27) and The Netherlands (November 29) in Istanbul.

The reasons behind Sarica’s abrupt termination aren’t mentioned in the announcement. According to various reports and as Eurohoops can also confirm, there had been a couple of  disagreements between the Federation and Sarica, including one over who between Scottie Wilbekin and Shane Larkin will join the national team as a naturalized player. Sarica preferred to get Wilbekin back on the “12 Giant Men” while the Federation pushed for Larkin.
