Igor Kokoskov’s status was uncertain since Serbia missed the Olympics and it came as no surprise that the Federation announced parting ways with the coach.

The two sides mutually agreed to the decision and the Serbian Federation will search for his replacement in the upcoming days. As already reported, Svetislav Pesic has been the main candidate for the position and has been willing to take the job as long as he can choose who to work with.

Pesic would return to the national team bench after two decades. He coached FR Yugoslavia back in 2000-2002, winning gold at the 2001 EuroBasket as well as the 2002 World Cup. The latter was held in the US and Pesic’s Yugoslavia was the one to beat the hosts 81-78 in the quarterfinals.

Most recently, Pesic was the head coach of Barcelona between 2018 and 2020, during which he won two Spanish Cups.
