It’s no news that both Drew Eubanks and Donte DiVincenzo have shown interest in playing for the Italian national team on the road to this summer’s 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, both having discovered their roots belonging to the European country.

However, there hasn’t really been an update coming from the Azzurri side until today. Talking to Tuttosport, Gianmarco Pozzecco’s assistant coach and Arizona Wildcats’ coaching staff member Riccardo Fois addressed this topic.

“They know we’re interested, and we know they are too. We’re glad for it because it means what we’ve been doing with the [Italian] national team is appealing”, he said about Drew Eubanks and Donte DiVincenzo, whose procedures for getting an Italian passport aren’t yet concluded.

In the past few days, the name of 20-year-old NCAA revelation Donovan Clingan appeared on the list of potential naturalized players to strengthen Italy. “We’re in contact with him, like with everybody else. Bureaucratic times are biblical and he will go to the NBA”, Riccardo Fois said about UConn Huskies’ center.

The Italian national team has concluded the 2023 FIBA World Cup in the 8th position, gaining access to the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. They will play from July 2-7 in Puerto Rico, trying to get a ticket to Paris 2024.
