Cedi Osman will not be available for Turkey during the November and February windows of the 2019 World Cup European Qualifiers, yet he’s cheering for the next generation of Turkish players.

In an interview with FIBA, 22-year-old Osman says: “We have great generations of players coming up, and at youth level we have been working very well. So I am confident that we will get to a very high level of competitiveness soon. I am sure that in two or three years we will be a very good team and we will compete for a medal.”

As Turkey’s 1996-born group has won the U16 and U18 European Championships in 2012 and 2014 respectively, it is justified that Osman believes in the next generation of players.

“We have also some very good veterans who are helping a lot and showing the young guys how is it to compete at the highest level. Their role on the team is priceless,” he continues. “It is very important for our development as a team and also for each and every one of us as players.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers player will not be able to help his NT this winter, yet seems willing to join whenever its possible: “I am always ready to help the national team. I am very happy when I wear Turkey’s jersey, and whenever I have the chance to represent and play for the national team, I will do so.”
