Turkish Basketball Federation president Hedo Turkoglu discussed the progress of American combo guard Scottie Wilbekin obtaining a Turkish passport in order to be eligible to play for the Turkish national team.

Turkoglu mentioned that Wilbekin joining the “12 Giant Men” will allow Turkey head coach Ufuk Sarica more options since Bobby Dixon (a.k.a. Ali Muhammed), who’s currently the national team’s naturalized player, will stay on board.

“Wilbekin played at an amazing level this season. Ali Muhammed is also a character that I respect so much. Wilbekin’s Turkish citizenship process will be completed soon. Having two neutralized players, we have taken measures concerning any injuries. Coach Ufuk Sarica will be deciding whomever he wants to add to the roster,” Turkoglu said to Turkish Sports TV.

The president of the Turkish Federation and former NBAer also talked about upcoming changes that will take place in the BSL League.

“The Turkish clubs’ success in Europe rose in the last three years. While we are proud of it, we have to find a solution for the native players. There will definitely be a different implementation in the following years. We will gather with the clubs and decide on what to do by 19 or 21 June. We will announce the 3-year plan. Besides, the native players should seize the opportunity once given, as well.”
