The Dallas Mavericks will most likely retire Dirk Nowitzki’s no. 41 jersey at the beginning of the 2020-2021 season, club owner Marc Kuban said.

“We’re probably gonna retire his [Dirk Nowitzki] number early next year,” Cuban said to The Ben & Skin Show. For now, Kuban wants the German legend to continue acting as a mentor to his projected successor-to-be Luka Doncic.

I’m pushing him to spend more time with Luka [Doncic] right now,” Cuban said. In January, the Mavs boss had mentioned that he contemplated retiring Dirk’s jersey this season but the lack of many home games made it a bit difficult.

Following Nowitzki’s retirement, Cuban had said that a statue of the German great will also be built outside American Airlines Center.
