The relationship between Utah Jazz‘s Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell in the aftermath of their recovery from coronavirus remains strained and doesn’t seem likely to be fixed.
According to a story by The Athletic, the relationship “doesn’t appear salvageable” despite the efforts of the Jazz to mend it. Utah players were reported to be frustrated with what they considered to be a “careless” behavior by Gobert, in the days before the French center tested positive for coronavirus.
Gobert issued a public apology on social media. He had also been criticized for purposefully touching microphones and reporters’ cellphones during a presser.
Mitchell himself admitted that it took him “a while to cool off” in regards to Gobert’s behavior. Both players are now fine, having been cleared of COVID-19 since March 27.
Jazz forward Joe Ingles is hopeful that once the team is reunited again then everything will work out. “I heard Donovan’s response (on GMA), or whatever it was, to that question, and a part of that is on Donovan and Rudy to sort out if he’s frustrated with him or whatever. But I have no doubt when we go back to training, or when our season starts again, our team is going to be what we have been and what we are. … I’m confident our team will be completely fine. The chemistry will be fine,” Ingles said to The Athletic.
