The first exhibition game for each NBA team at Orlando will be held with 10-minute quarters instead of the traditional 12 minutes, per ESPN. All 22 teams will test themselves in two more scrimmages planned to last the usual 48 minutes.

Tweaking the length of the first contests aims to avoid fatigue or even injuries with the players coming off a four-month hiatus since the decision to halt the 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, some players may not be available for the first exhibition game.

The NBA is also considering whether teams will use uniforms or practice gear in the scrimmages and whether assigning more than three referees per game in rotation.

Following the three exhibitions, the 22 teams that made the trip to Orlando will play eight regular season games. Afterward, the eight top sides from each conference will progress to the playoffs.
