The Houston Rockets will be looking for a new head coach after Mike D’Antoni’s decision to not continue with the team. According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, there’s already a “mutual interest” between the team and their former player Sam Cassell.

Cassell is currently an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers. He first entered the coaching business in 2009 by joining the Washington Wizards as an assistant right after he retired as a player.

“Sam Cassell should be a head coach, period,” Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said per McMahon. “He’s got an incredibly high basketball IQ, and I just hope he gets a shot. … When they talk about paying dues, he’s paid every due that is possible and he’s yet to get a job. So, I’m hoping that happens.”

The Rockets and Cassell go way back since he began his career with the team in 1993. He won two NBA championship titles as a Rocket in 1994 and 1995.
