Tyronn Lue is finalizing a five-year deal to become the next coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, as Adrian Wojnarowski reported. A former assistant of Doc Rivers, Lue is expected to be promoted and lead the Clippers to the next page, after Rivers’ departure.

Lue’s name was linked with the Sixers, where Rivers got hired, and also to the Houston Rockets.

Lue is best known for coaching LeBron James in Cleveland, after the mid-season firing of David Blatt. Lue coached the Cavs to an NBA championship in 2016 and also led them to the 2017 and 2018 finals.

Lue became the second rookie head coach in two years to win the title after Steve Kerr, the third head coach (along with Paul Westhead in 1979–80 and Pat Riley in 1981–82) to win a championship after becoming head coach in midseason, and the 14th person to have won an NBA championship as a head coach and as a player.

Lue is 128-83 overall and 41-20 in the playoffs in his head coaching career.
