The Spurs announced Thursday and have elevated Darius Songaila to the assistant coach position, while at the same time Mitch Johnson will fill the spot on Gregg Popovich’s staff vacated by Tim Duncan, Marc Stein broke the news.

Songaila was previously promoted from player development coach to player development assistant late last summer.

The 42-year-old bronze medalist of the 2000 Olympics left Zalgiris‘ bench where he served as an assistant coach between 2015 and 2018 after ending his playing career with the Lithuanian club and left for the Spurs in 2018.
