Timberwolves? Mavericks? The Nuggets may be the team with which Facu Campazzo will begin his NBA career.

Facu Campazzo has been strongly linked with such NBA teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Dallas Mavericks but the club that will ultimately land him may be none of those two.

Sources have told Eurohoops that while nothing is cemented right now, it’s the Denver Nuggets that are by far the frontrunner to sign Campazzo and add in their ranks the 29-year-old Argentinian player and one of the top guards outside the NBA during the last couple of years.

Chema De Lucas and Marca first reported that the Nuggets are the favorites to acquire Campazzo.

Earlier on Thursday (19/11), Campazzo’s agent confirmed that his client will be making the move to the NBA and that “he has more chances of going to a Western Conference team.” Real Madrid will be retaining the player’s rights if and when he ever returns to Europe.

If the Nuggets do indeed sign Campazzo in the free agency that opens Friday, November 20, they will get an elite passer who has been the on-court leader and main floor general of a EuroLeague powerhouse during the last seasons. He will be arriving to the Nuggets after a stint during which he led Real Madrid to numerous domestic titles while winning multiple MVP awards.

Apart from a playmaking package that includes exceptional floor vision, ability to command the tempo and skill to pull off some extremely tough “don’t try this at home” passes that are top-shelf highlight material, Campazzo has also been displaying some of the most tenacious – equally stout and nimble – defense in EuroLeague.

In 2019-2020 and before the EuroLeague season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Campazzo averaged 7.1 assists, along with 9.9 points, 2.3 rebounds over 23:53 minutes. He is currently posting 6.1 assists plus 9.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals over 25:23 minutes, spearheading Real Madrid’s efforts through four straight wins.

In his previous game, Campazzo dished out a season-high 12 assists in a win over Maccabi Tel Aviv. His next match comes Friday (20/11) when Real Madrid will face Fenerbahce Beko at home and what will likely be his last appearance with Real Madrid will take place Sunday, in the Spanish ACB League clash vs. Manresa.
