Five NBA players as well as several officials from the players association have traveled to the Vatican for a private audience with Pope Francis in order to discuss their work on social justice issues, according to ESPN.

The delegation includes Kyle Korver, Sterling Brown, Jonathan Isaac, Anthony Tolliver, Marco Belinelli, and Michele Roberts – the executive director of the players union.

An intermediary for the Pope reached out to the players association last week indicating that the Pope would like to learn more about how players had recently brought attention to pressing social justice issues and economic inequality as well as what they planned for the future.

The union agreed and quickly scheduled an overnight flight Sunday to make their private meeting with the Pope, which began at 11:45 a.m. local time Monday morning at the Vatican. With training camp set to open on December 1, the trip had to be made now.
