On the day of his 72nd birthday, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich announced he has gotten the COVID-19 vaccine, in a symbolic move to encourage more people to receive the vaccine when they get the opportunity to do so.

“I’m going to get the COVID-19 vaccine shot. It will keep me safe, keep my family safe and keep other people safe. Let’s do this together”, said Popovich in a video announcement on Thursday. “Sciencewise, it’s a no brainer. It’s the right thing to do so we can all get on track again”.

The video shows Popovich receiving the vaccine, in which he says “I didn’t feel it”, to the public health worker who vaccinated him. The Spurs head coach followed the example of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who also got vaccinated on camera last week.
