LA Clippers assistant coach Chauncey Billups and Portland Trail Blazers are progressing in contract talks for the head coach position of the team, according to reports by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Per the report,  the Blazers offered Billups the job Friday night and president of basketball operations Neil Olshey and Andy Miller of Klutch Sports have begun negotiating a long-term deal that is expected to result in Billups taking over as head coach.

44-year-old Billups is a five-time NBA All-Star and the MVP of the 2004 NBA Finals as a member of the Detroit Pistons. After retiring from professional basketball, he has worked as a broadcaster for ESPN and has taken over the Cleveland Cavaliers as the president of basketball operations position. Last summer he interviewed with the Indiana Pacers for their head coaching vacancy, though the team ultimately signed Nate Bjorkgren.
