Luka Doncic is about to sign the first big contract of his NBA career. According to Marc Stein, the Slovenian player will be landing a five-year, $202 million extension (the rookie scale supermax) with the Dallas Mavericks.

Any discussions on the matter will be held after the completion of the Olympic Games, Stein also reports. After completing the Group Stage with a 3-0 record, Doncic and Slovenia will be facing Germany for a spot in the semifinals Tuesday (3/8).

While Doncic is still on his rookie contract (which would bring him 10.1 million for the upcoming season), he’s still eligible to sign the maximum extension since he was named to the All-NBA First Team in 2020 and 2021.

Since he was acquired by the Mavericks during the 2018 Draft, Doncic established himself as the face of the franchise and one of NBA’s elite stars. Apart from his back-to-back NBA First Team appearances, he was voted as an All-Star starter in 2020 and 2021 while being a prominent MVP candidate.
