The Philadelphia 76ers hope to boost the 2021-22 roster with Damian Lillard, per Derek Bodner of The Athletic. Trading away Ben Simmons is now a lesser goal, as noted.

Lillard, 31, has once again surfaced as a trade target. He signed a supermax contract in 2019 running through the 2024-25 season. If he is indeed looking for different surroundings after nine seasons at the Portland Trail Blazers, a contending team such as the Sixers would likely be a solid fit.

The explosive point guard is set to return to the USA after helping his country’s national team win gold in the 2020 Olympic Games. He logged 12.4 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per match in Tokyo.

Simmons, 25, has been shopped by the 76ers during this offseason. However, it seems like Lillard is now on top of the list of the team’s president of basketball operations Daryl Morey.
