Jason Kidd stayed in Latvia for three days, after traveling to Slovenia for Luka Doncic’s supermax contract extension. The Slovenian’s main sidekick, Kristaps Porzingis, was the theme of his trip to Latvia.

“I wanted to see where he lived, that is home for him,” he told the Dallas Morning News, “Beautiful place. We always talk about family. Sometimes we need to show our care factor. I care. I wanted to let him know that I care.”

The Mavericks with Kidd among the representatives in Ljubljana sealed the deal regarding the contract extension for Doncic. The recently appointed head coach made sure his Latvian star was not left out of his tour.

“I know that he’s healthy. I know he’s excited. And then I just wanted to talk to him about things basketball-wise as well as off the court,” he added, “We always talk about basketball, but I wanted to see where he was off the court. He’s in a great place.”

Porziņgis, 26, carries a contract through the 2022-23 season with a player option for 2023-24. He logged 19.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.3 blocks per 2020-21 appearance.

Up next, the 2021 training camp beginning 28 September.
