The former Ohio State standout is heading to the NBA G League Ignite, as recently reported. He is expected to be among the experienced players blending with younger prospects in the team created in 2020 as an alternative for college basketball.
UPDATE (5/11): Koufos officially joins G League Ignite.
The Canton-born center has played in 16 games of the G League, then called D-League. His experience dates back to early in his pro career, the 2008-09 and 2009-10 campaigns under the Utah Flash.
He last played for Olympiacos. The brief stint at the end of the 2020-21 season generated 4.6 points and 2.3 rebounds per Turkish Airlines EuroLeague game over eight appearances, including five starts. He competed in 17 more EuroLeague games as a member of CSKA Moscow during the 2019-20 season.
His previous 11 years in the NBA were split between the Utah Jazz, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, and the Sacramento Kings generating 723 games played, including 37 Playoff tilts. He posted 3.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per contest as a member of the Kings in 2018-19, his most recent NBA stint.
Koufos has represented Greece at both the junior and senior levels. After the 2007 FIBA Europe U-18 Championship, he earned 24 caps with the senior national team through 2009, 2011, and 2015 editions of EuroBasket, and three more in the 2016 Turin FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
