Pau Gasol talked about how the death of his former teammate and longtime friend Kobe Bryant affected him in multiple ways.

Ιn an interview with Youtuber Ibai Llanos, Gasol said that apart from being unable to sleep he had to cope with a lot of “crying” and “pain” following the loss of Kobe and his daughter Gianna in a tragic helicopter accident in January 2020.

Here’s what Gasol mentioned on the matter while describing a segment from his upcoming documentary “It’s all about the journey” that shows his reaction to Kobe’s death.

Per Marca:

“The objective of the documentary was to show the personal side and to be authentic. To be transparent with what was happening and unfortunately, this tragic accident took place and it was a very hard blow that is still being digested. We could not hide it, although for me it was hard. But Kobe had meant so much in my life that it was a way to convey those feelings in the most natural way possible. It took me a long time to sleep well, there were a lot of crying and a lot of pain.”

During his retirement speech in October, Gasol broke into tears when he said how he wished that Kobe could be there.

Gasol and Kobe had a special relationship that has also extended to their families. Pau and his wife named their firstborn daughter Elisabet Gianna after Gianna Bryant.
