Stephen Curry did it again. This time, his explosive 50-point performance was combined with a historic record for the Golden State Warriors.
Curry became just the third player in the franchise’s history to score 50 points and 10 assists in a game, joining Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain and Rick Barry. In fact, he surpassed Chamberlain as the oldest player in the league to achieve that record, aged 33, as opposed to Chamberlain who did so at 31.
The Warriors superstar dropped nine three-pointers in 35 minutes for a season-high performance and now the team moves up to the top of the Western Conference Standings with a 9-1 record. This also marked Curry’s 10th 50-point game of his NBA career.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was all smiles in his post-game quotes, praising the effort of Curry. “That was just a stunning performance by Steph. He was amazing. I want to say I’ve never seen anything like it but I’ve been watching it for seven years, so I have seen something like it and still, it’s just incredible to watch.”
This historic night nearly wouldn’t happen if Curry hadn’t overcome a minor shoulder injury he suffered early in the first quarter. The player was immediately treated by the Warriors’ medical staff and was able to return and produce a memorable game for him and the Warriors.
