The quarantine period for vaccinated NBA players and coaches has been lowered from 10 to six days if they are asymptomatic and their coronavirus test shows that they present no infection risk, ESPN reports.

Vaccinated players and coaches (and also staff and referees) can now resume action sooner than before following this change that was agreed by the NBA and the NBPA (National Basketball Players Association). Teams are currently struggling with multiple coronavirus-related absences and players entering the health and safety protocols, issues that have caused the postponement of several games over the last month.

According to ESPN, the decision to reduce the quarantine timeframe was taken also after research information showed that people who have received the vaccination boost could get the coronavirus out of their body “at a far more rapid rate” than others.

In the meantime, USA’s CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) shortened the COVID-19 isolation period from 10 to five days.
