Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman has agreed to a contract extension through the 2027-28 season and will assume a new title of president of basketball operations, according to ESPN.
Altman earned his new role and the organization’s trust with the moves that pushed the Cavs quickly among the playoff teams.
He drafted two young players in Darius Garland and Evan Mobley and traded for Jarrett Allen, who are all showing All-Star potential. Kevin Love has re-emerged as a crucial player for the Cavaliers the trade for Ricky Rubio turned out very fruitful, although the Spaniard suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
Altman is considered one of the early frontrunners for the league’s executive of the year award along with the Chicago Bulls‘ Arturas Karnisovas and Memphis Grizzlies‘ Zach Kleiman.
The Cavs sit sixth in the East with a 23-18 record, after three straight seasons finishing no higher than 13th in the Conference. The team recently extended the deal with coach J.B. Bickerstaff until 2027.
